Real Stories From My Clinic: The Oxford Professor and the House...

Updated: Mar 19

You move into a new house for work.

New city

New routine

New environment

And almost immediately, your body starts reacting.

Sneezing, irritation.

Symptoms that seem to appear only when you’re at home.

An Oxford professor comes to see me.

He’s convinced it’s the house.

And honestly, he’s right!

Testing shows a strong reaction to house dust mites, which explains why this particular rented property was causing so many problems.

But as we look deeper, other things show up too.

  • Gluten

  • Dairy

  • Some nightshade foods

Sometimes our bodies are dealing with more than one stressor at a time.

I explain that reducing the consumption of things your body reacts to, can often make it easier to cope with the triggers you can’t completely avoid, such as the dust mites in a home you didn’t choose.

But here’s the important part:

He wasn’t interested in changing his diet as he could'nt see the connection to the dust mites.

And that’s okay.

Because my role isn’t to force change, it’s to provide information so people can make their own decisions.

Sometimes people act on everything they learn.

Sometimes they only take part of it.

Either way, understanding your body is always the first step.
